Arbor Day Legacy

When Julee Higgins was in third grade at Rusk Elementary, in 1974, the students were given an oak tree sapling for Arbor Day.  She said a friend across the street helped her carry the tree home in a small bucket. Forty-seven years later the tree is still alive at her parents' house and her granddaughter is swinging in it! Julee lives in Utah but comes back to Midland to visit her parents a couple of times a year. When she shared the story of the tree with her 4 year old granddaughter, she looked at the tree as it is now and said “Nanee how did you get that tree home?!”

National Arbor Day is April 30th! Go plant a tree, for you and future generations to enjoy.
