Star Staff

Irasema is the perfect example of a success story at MISD! She came to Midland from the Ojinaga, Mexico ten years ago and started working as a custodian at South Elementary School. After a couple of years at South, she moved on to Scharbauer Elementary. She then  was promoted to head custodian at Fasken Elementary, where she was honored with the Unsung Hero award.

Irasema now serves as one of three custodial supervisors that manage custodians across the district. Her supervisor says he was always impressed at her hard work and ability to learn quickly, which was why it was an easy choice to promote her to her current position.

The custodial staff was exceptionally busy this year, with extra responsibilities surrounding COVID protocols and recovering after February's winter storm. Irasema exhibited her ability to learn and adapt when she studied for and passed the U.S. Citizenship test in 2018. She has been married for 22 years, and has three daughters; the youngest of which is a student at Early College High School.
