Family Science Night 2GO
In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, organizations across
the country have had to tailor how they provide meaningful and engaging
programming to the members of their community while also following proper
safety guidelines and recommendations.
One way the Petroleum Museum has done
this is by providing the community with Family Science Night 2GO boxes. Before
the pandemic, the Museum would offer four Family Science Nights a school year.
Each event is centered around a different scientific theme and features hands-on
experiments, demonstrations, and inventive projects. The Museum partners with
different community organizations to provide engaging science education to the
families in the surrounding communities.
Family Science Nights are generously
sponsored by Chevron which allows these events to be free to the public.
Because these events range anywhere from 500 to 1,000+ people per event, the
Museum had to tailor this experience to better fit the new regulations
surrounding the Covid-19 pandemic.
is where the idea of the Family Science Night 2GO boxes was born. Family
Science Night 2GO boxes feature 10-12 activities and come equipped with all the
materials and information needed for families to conduct the experiments and
activities at home.
The current Grossology Family Science Night 2GO box will
feature Halloween themed science experiments and engineering challenges such as
Goblin Snot, Puking Pumpkins, Vampire Shooters and much more. Thanks to generous funding from Chevron, the
Museum is able to provide these boxes to the public free of charge.
Families simply register online to reserve a time slot to pick up their box from the Museum. Families can also view some of the experiments on our Facebook page starting Saturday, October 31st at 2:15 pm. The Museum is currently discussing the possibility of holding another Family Science Night 2GO in place of our regularly scheduled Family Science Night in January 2021.
