Día De Los Muertos at Fiddlesticks Farms

By: Haley Ragsdale

October is drawing to a close, but that doesn’t mean the fun on the farm stops at Fiddlesticks Farms. Fiddlesticks Farms continues their season with Saturdays in November and the first Saturday is a special celebration.

Fiddlesticks Farms will hold a Día de Los Muertos celebration on November 2nd. Día de Los Muertos or Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday. This multi-day holiday involves family and friends gathering to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died and helping support their spiritual journey. This year the holiday is October 31st-Nov 2nd.

“Last year one of our long-time employees passed away on October 28th, and this season we have set up an altar for him at our county store to remember and honor him. We have had so many guests tell us we need to expand on that. This year Día de Los Muertos happens to fall on the weekend we are open,” said Jessica Norton owner of Fiddlesticks Farms.

To celebrate, there will be mariachi band, Mariachi Armonia, playing from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm throughout the day. There will also be an alter set up, where any farm guests are welcome to bring items in honor of someone that has passed away.

“We will have all the traditional elements, marigolds, crosses, sugar skulls and fresh fruit. For example, if a guest’s loved one, liked peppermints they can bring a bowl of those and place them at the alter and pick up their items when they leave,” Norton said.

Half priced entry will also be for anyone dressed in full Día de Los Muertos attire.

Helicopter rides will also be offered along with all the other farm activities including milking demonstrations, pig races, hayrides and the pumpkin patch.

“We really hope this turns into a fun and meaningful celebration that we will make an annual event,” Norton explained.

Saturday admissions in November are from 10 am-6 pm and the farm closes at 7 pm.

Mark your calendars for other special events through November at Fiddlesticks Farms:
